Cairo, 05 September 2019 - In the light of outstanding success that the UN-Habitat has achieved with the government of Egypt in the development of the El-Alamein New City, the Strategic Planning and Urban Development Program in Egypt Office has successfully accomplished the main concept for the strategic development plan for the waterfront new city Ras Al-Eikma Waterfront City (REWC).

The positive cooperation between UN-Habitat and the Egyptian Ministry of Housing (MoH) represented by the General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP) and the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) was the basis for innovative urban solutions to stimulate sustainable urban development and encourage Public Private Partnership approach (PPP). The project applies a new model for planning and implementing of waterfront cities. The project contributes to supporting new urban community development with significant characters in order to maximize the benefits of the natural environment of Egyptian cities. REWC contributes to achieve the economic sustainability and explore ways to utilize the resources in supporting local and national economy, in addition to improving the performance of business model, enhancing capacities, developing urban management approaches and waterfronts cities, as well as the economic activities resulting from a strategic vision that contributes to achieving SDGs 11.
