UN-Habitat is on the front line of the world’s urban crises, responding immediately to support people and communities who are most in need, supporting rapid recovery, rebuilding livelihoods, and working to building thriving communities.

Please join us in this important work. Your donations will contribute directly to helping us provide clean water, sanitation, and shelter, rebuild critical infrastructure and provide services to those most affected by crisis.

We are calling for urgent action to address crises throughout the Arab region. Faced with long-standing conflicts, the crisis is deepening due to economic upheaval and instability and the COVID-19 pandemic across Iraq, Libya, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. With more than 400 million living in the region — and half of them under the age of 25 — it is critical to support action now to build stability and a brighter future for all.

In the Arab region:

55.7 million people need humanitarian assistance

26 million people are forcibly displaced

74 million people are at an increased risk of COVID-19 due to the lack of basic services

In Iraq, UN-Habitat is upgrading shelters for the most vulnerable and recently returned IDP families, providing supplies and non-food items to improve their living conditions and rehabilitating war damaged houses, clinics and water networks in the cities of Mosul, Heet and Yathrib.

UN-Habitat has contributed to freezing evictions and further displacement of Palestinian communities in occupied East Jerusalem and Area C. This benefited 55,000 Palestinians and entailed the development of 56 multi-layered community-based plans.

Following the explosion at Beirut Port, Lebanon, in August 2020, UN-Habitat moved quickly to support local authorities in mapping, urban analysis and damage assessments of buildings, houses and schools. We worked to provide cash for shelter assistance and housing repairs for the most vulnerable households as a priority, and led the rehabilitation of the National HIV and TB Centre in Beirut that was severely damaged by the explosion.

In Al Hudaydah, a major port town in Yemen which has seen heavy fighting, 47,000 families were displaced and found shelter in old schools or disused government buildings lacking sanitation facilities and clean water. UN-Habitat rehabilitated homes, built water and sanitation facilities, and engaged community members in the repair of their homes contributing to their livelihood.
